Paint of opposite colors spilled on canvas, abstract and chaotic images filling the frame, bringing disturbance to mind—these are the first impression of Ian Hsieh's painting.
An avid traveler with footprints in over 300 cities, Hsieh has explored different environments and discovered that the past had left its trace in human environments. Reflecting this in his techniques, he draws with naturally flowing paint that spill over like ink. Realistically-painted animals stands in the paintings in a lonely, haggard way, forming a remarkable contrast with the ambiguous chaos in the background. Interlacing nature with art, abstract with realism, the work presents a sense of contradiction, by which it leads viewers to resonate with cares for nature.
Hsieh's latest work further extends the vision. Different from the techniques he used in the past—single color tone and interlacing abstract with realism, intentionally Hsieh only makes use of pure oil paint and natural cracks, enabling viewers to further connect their thoughts to the work, thereby understanding the subtleties in it.
